Environmental Revolution on Wheels: DSV Orders 300 E-Trucks from Volvo

Written by: Niels Callenbach

Logistics giant DSV is strengthening its fleet with an impressive order for 300 electric trucks from Volvo. With this they are taking a solid step towards making their transport activities more sustainable. The order includes the new FH Aero Electric, which represents one of the largest commercial orders for Volvo's e-trucks to date.

These 300 all-electric Volvo trucks will be deployed in various DSV European operations, as part of the broader goal of having as many as two thousand e-trucks on the road by 2030.

As a global player with more than 20,000 trucks on the road daily, DSV will manage one of the largest fleets of heavy-duty electric trucks in Europe with this order. In the coming years, a growing number of these trucks will run electric or use renewable fuels.

According to Søren Schmidt, CEO of DSV Road, the continued cooperation with Volvo is crucial to reducing emissions in the transportation sector. Schmidt emphasizes that the agreement is a clear example of how new technologies can be applied on a large scale to enable emission-free transportation for customers.

First steps toward future logistics

We previously spoke with Johnny Nijenhuis, e-truck nerd and expert on electrifying fleets. In The Logistics Podcast, he talked about the need for innovation and everything that comes with it. DSV, with such a large investment in e-trucks, confirms Johnny's prediction, that no more diesel trucks will be sold by 2035.

DSV already deploys Volvo electric trucks in Sweden and Denmark in their transport operations and has set up charging infrastructure powered by solar energy for these locations. In another podcast episode, Johnny talks more about how companies are making the switch to electric trucks. Here he also mentions the problem of grid congestion in the Netherlands. According to director of Netbeheer Nederland Hans-Peter Oskam, 75% of grid congestion would be solved in the Netherlands by 2032. The only question is whether this will be in time for DSV or if they will come up with another solution.
