There are many route planners on the market in the Netherlands. Therefore, you may ask yourself "what is the best online route planner?" On this page we compare and explain these route planners. What is the best route planner for you depends on your needs and what you are going to use the route planner for.
The best route planners in the Netherlands are:

To arrive at the best route planner, there are a number of factors to consider:
- Do you want to be able to plan one or more vehicles?
- Are routes optimized to minimize fuel and driving time?
- Is there a driver app and can you send messages with expected arrival times?
- Is there a free version that makes it easy to try the route planner?
- Does the route planner provide enough value relative to the monthly/annual investment?
The best route planners compared:
RouteXL
RouteXL's route planner is a great option if you don't drive complex routes and the number of assignments is limited. RouteXL is free to use up to 20 assignments. Do you want to plan more than 20 assignments? Then you need to purchase an upgrade; you can purchase this upgrade by the day, month or year. The free version allows you to plan an unlimited number of routes per day. So you are not limited in this.
To find all the addresses on the map, RouteXL uses geocoding services. The free version uses free geocoding services, these free geocoding services often have a usage limit and lower quality. What does this mean? Due to the lower quality, addresses are not always given the exact location. The upgraded subscriptions use premium geocoding services, these services offer better quality.
Looking at order entry, RouteXL does not allow you to link the route planner with your own webshop or CRM package. So you have to enter all orders manually. Entering orders manually is time-consuming and inefficient. Efficiency is one of the reasons for many planners to use a route planner.
Also missing from RouteXL is a driver app and the ability to send your customers (with track-and-trace messages) an SMS or E-mail what time you expect to arrive. Also, your driver's location is not shown on the map when the driver is on the road.
In short, RouteXL's route planner is a great option when the routes are not complex. Do the routes get more complex? Then you will have to opt for an alternative.
Optimoroute
Optimoroute's route planner is a lot more comprehensive than RouteXL. Optimoroute was not developed for the Dutch market and is therefore only available in English. Optimoroute also does not offer standard links to the most widely used Dutch-language webshop and CRM packages. However, an API is available so you could create a customised link.
As indicated, Optimoroute is a lot more comprehensive than RouteXL. Optimoroute has the following features, among others:
- Live tracking and estimated time of arrival;
- Mobile app for drivers;
- Real-time route modification;
But note that not all features are available in the 'lite' subscription. For this, you will need to purchase the 'pro' subscription, or the 'custom' subscription yourself.
Optimoroute, as mentioned, is a package in English and aimed at the US market. It has little to no experience with the European road network and this is reflected, not all addresses are recognised and the routes are not always optimal. Because the package is in English, there are also some snags in the support regarding the European road network.
Optimoroute's 'lite' route planner costs $35- / month / per driver. You do miss out on important features (Analytics, real-time order tracking, signature for receipt etc). Do you want these options? Then the monthly cost increases significantly. Indeed, the Pro subscription costs $42.70 - / month / per driver.
Routetitan
RouteTitan is a good route planner with many features. With RouteTitan's route planner, you calculate the most optimal route in seconds. Priority, time slots and breaks are taken into account when calculating the optimal route, among other things. Another feature of RouteTitan is live GPS tracking. This shows you where the driver is and gives you live insight into the route. In addition, you can notify your customers about when the order will arrive. Not every feature is available for every package.
Because of all the features, the route planner can be a bit overwhelming, there are many (hidden) options or possibilities that are not always clear. There is no free route planner version available. To test the route planner, you need to schedule an appointment. No standard links to webshop or CRM packages are available.
Routetitan is one of the more expensive providers in the route planner field. The 'essential' package costs: € 59,- / month / per vehicle. The 'professional' package, which you need if you want to use more functionalities, costs: € 99,- / month / per vehicle. The 'professional' package includes proof of delivery, live track and trace and real-time route adjustment.
Routigo
RoutiGo, like previous software, is a route planner that allows you to plan optimal routes. RoutiGo's software calculates the most efficient stop sequence. After the calculation, you will find an overview on the dashboard showing all drivers and routes. The Estimated time of arrival indicates the time of delivery. In addition, you can easily add pickups and extra stops.
RoutiGo does not offer standard links for your webshop or CRM package. There is also no free route planner. So call and schedule a demonstration.
The options are certainly very limited in the standard route planner (€ 40 / month / vehicle). You then miss live vehicle tracking and have no API access. So you have to manually enter your assignments with RoutiGo, and this again takes time. The standard route planner features include the following: Driver app, self-arranging routes and chat support.
In addition, Routigo works with add-ons. These options are therefore in addition to the monthly fee you pay per vehicle. So it seems cheap, but appearances are deceptive: if, for example, you want to inform customers of their delivery, you already pay €10/month/vehicle. With most of the route planners we compared, this is a standard feature that you don't have to pay extra for.
Bumbal
With Bumbal's scheduling software, you plan routes without fuss, including appointments with customers. Bumbal calls itself KMB's logistics solution. For those who want to save time, miles and paper. Bumbal transport software is specially developed for wholesalers, retailers, web shops, production companies and service organizations with their own vehicles.
A basic subscription to Bumbal costs 50,- per vehicle per month. The basic functionalities are available, but the possibilities are very limited. For example, you only have access to 2 hours of support desk per month and no track & trace for customers. In addition, you pay a one-time activation fee of € 375.00 for the Bumbal account.
Do you want more features at your disposal? Then you can choose the basic + communication subscription. The costs are € 60,- per vehicle per month including for example track & trace for customers, customer portal and extra communication options. The third subscription is an on-demand subscription. Here you have access to all functionalities.
As you can read above, a subscription is on the expensive side. Especially if you have several vehicles at your disposal and want to use all functionalities.
