Entrepreneurs concerned about zero-emission zones: RouteLogic offers solution

Written by: Kendra

The introduction of zero-emission zones from 1 January 2025 will bring big changes for entrepreneurs in the logistics sector. In 14 Dutch municipalities, diesel delivery trucks will no longer be allowed to enter zero-emission zones. This has caused unrest and concern among entrepreneurs. The survey by ANWB Zakelijk shows that over 64% of entrepreneurs with a company van are worried about these new environmental rules, mainly because of the regional differences in enforcement and the financial consequences of switching to zero-emission transport.

The figures speak for themselves:

  • 23% of business owners see zero-emission zones as their biggest challenge.
  • 22% see replacing their company bus as the biggest challenge.
  • 64% of entrepreneurs worry about the advent of zero-emission zones.
  • 60% worry about replacing their company bus.

Challenges for entrepreneurs

The introduction of zero-emission zones previously caused considerable concern among entrepreneurs. Trade associations such as RAI Vereniging, BOVAG and Techniek Nederland have warned several times about the consequences of these measures. Especially the differences between cities cause confusion. Amsterdam, for instance, has stricter zones than Arnhem, making route planning difficult for entrepreneurs operating in several regions.

It forces entrepreneurs to switch to electric vehicles, which in turn poses significant challenges.

  • Regional differences: Each municipality determines the size and enforcement of zero-emission zones, leading to confusion over where diesel vehicles are still allowed or not.
  • Replacement of commercial buses: 60% of entrepreneurs are concerned about the need to replace their current diesel vehicles with electric alternatives, with all the financial costs and obstacles involved.
  • Uncertainty about regulations: Different political positions and measures around zero-emission zones are causing additional unease among business owners.
